Everyone
knows that there was never a story more full of pain than the story of Romeo
and Juliet by the brilliant William Shakespeare. But what if there was no
tragic ending? Not one of the lovers kills themselves? Well, here’s my
alternate ending of the masterpiece, Romeo and Juliet.
~Juliet
awakens just as Romeo was about to drink the poison~
Romeo:
My dearest Juliet! I thought you were
dead!
Juliet: My Romeo, it only seemed like I was
dead. I drank a potion with a sleep-inducing drug which stopped my pulse and my
breathing, removed the color from my lips and made my skin cold.
Romeo: Why would you do such a thing? What if
the drug killed you instead of just putting you into a deep sleep? But at least
you’re here now my beautiful Juliet. We are here together, I love you.
Juliet: Oh my Romeo, I love you too. But what
is that I hear? I hear people coming in. Let us run away, run away from this
wretched life from all those who disturb our love.
~They kiss~
~Friar Lawrence enters~
Friar Lawrence: Romeo!
Juliet! Are you both okay? You need to escape right now! Some watchmen are
coming!
Romeo: My friend! We are fine. Thank you very
much for all your help. We will repay your kind deeds in the future. But for
now, farewell.
Juliet: Farewell, Friar Lawrence. May God
bless you.
~ All three exit, Watchmen
enter~
Chief Watchman: I thought I
heard noises in this tomb? Then everything became silent. Wait! What is that
liquid on the ground? Blood? It’s blood! And, it’s County Paris! He’s dead!
Help! Help!
First Watchman: Yes, sir? I
am here? Oh! It’s County Paris! Wait! Look! Isn’t that Romeo? And what? It’s
Juliet! She’s alive! I’ll go to the Prince immediately!
Chief Watchman: No! Chase
after them and capture that scoundrel Romeo! I’ll wake up the Capulets, Montagues
and the Prince. And you, (To third watchman) chase after them as well!
Third Watchman: Yes, sir.
Romeo: (To Juliet)We have
been spotted! Let’s make haste!
~Romeo and Juliet runs from
their pursuers~
Juliet: My love, is that a boat I see near a
bank of a river? Or am I just hallucinating because of fatigue from this
endless chase?
Romeo: No you are not hallucinating, dear
Juliet. It really is a boat. Let us hide in it to escape from our chasers.
Juliet: Okay, let’s sleep as well. I am really
tired.
~They lie down inside the
boat, not knowingly they are brought to another town by the river’s current.
The next morning, they awaken~
Romeo: Good morning lovely Juliet! What an
enchanting morning it is, waking up with my love by my side. Wake up, it seems
that we have drifted in a town I have never seen before.
Juliet: Good morning dear Romeo. Oh yes we are
in a new land! Let’s go around town and look for a place to stay.
~They get off the boat and
explore the new town~
Romeo
and Juliet found shelter with the warm hospitality of the people in the unknown
place. Meanwhile, the Capulets and the Montagues searched for them for months
but they
never found the lovers. They gave up the search thinking that they died.
Romeo and Juliet
then married, had children and lived peacefully without anyone
ever getting in their way.
